BOAT builder by day, aspiring model by night: Matt Ducey is about to hit the big time.
Matt Ducey will be packing his bags next month for an all expenses paid trip to NY to be personally photographed by international supermodel and photographer Helena Christensen. Matt got his lucky break after taking out the title for the coveted 2011 Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
The six foot three, blue eyed brunette, beat seven other finalists, selected from a pool of hundreds of entrants from across Australia to be named Australia’s best framed face. Matt could become the nation’s next modelling sensation after picking up a 12 month modelling contract with Australia’s top commercial modelling agency, Scoop.
The competition was judged on overall specs appeal and personality by a cast of elite judges who represent Australia’s finest in the fashion and modelling industry including notable designer Alex Perry, Leea Oak of Scoop Model Management, Grant Pearce, Creative Advisor of L’OrĂ©al Melbourne Fashion Festival and Melissa Hoyer one of Australia's leading fashion commentators.
Matt Ducey said, “I was so excited to even be part of the finals, I can’t believe I now have a modelling contract and get to meet Helena Christensen!
"I've been wearing glasses for a few years, and while I have prescription lenses, glasses today are stylish and they're a great accessory. I decided to enter the competition because I've wanted to get into modelling for a while and thought the competition would be a great stepping stone into the industry.
“It has been such an amazing experience. It was great to meet the other finalists and the judges. I was so excited to meet Alex Perry!”
Following a gruelling interview process and competitive photo shoot in Sydney yesterday the West Australian stunner was handpicked for his infectious spirit, natural charm and piercing eyes.
Alex Perry, Australian designer and judge panellist said, “It was a really tough decision, the calibre of finalists was incredibly high but Matt was definitely the stand out for me. He really shone in front of the camera and when it comes to spec style, he knows what works, there isn’t a frame that doesn’t work on that face!"
Matt will be flown to New York next month to kick start his modelling career with a private photo shoot with Helena Christensen.
The runners-up, Monique Wright, NSW, Kelly-Anne Knox, NSW, Amy Jarvis, QLD, Martika Massarotto, SA, Louise Warwick, QLD and Aimee Barlow, NSW didn’t walk away empty-handed they each received $1,000 cash and everyone took home a goodie bag of products from NP Set and TRESemme, as well as a $800 Specsavers voucher.
